We work closely with our day homes and are proud to build a supportive community where every child can thrive!
The Hummingbird Story
Hummingbird Dayhome began in 2017 as a single dayhome built on heart, intention, and a deep comminment to children and families. Over the years, we grew into a trusted network of dayhomes across three communities, proudly serving families for more than seven years. In 2024, we opened Hummingbird Early Learning Centre & Out of School Care, and in 2025, we became a licensed Dayhome Agency; continuing our journey of thoughtful growth and meaningful impact.
Philosophy & Mission
We nurture a connected community where children are seen as capable and curious, families feel valued and supported, and educators are empowered to provide exceptional care.
Guided by FLIGHT, our play-based approach honours children’s intersts, meaningful relationships, outdoor exploration, and strong communtiy connections; creating a truce sense of belonging for every child.
Meet Our Program Coordinator – Laura
I bring a background in psychology, education, and early childhood program leadership, focused on building high-quality, compliant, and sustainable childcare environments. I hold a BA in Psychology with a minor in Gerontology from the University of Ottawa, and later completed my Bachelor of Education while working across early learning programs throughout Edmonton.
My experience includes both classroom teaching and the leadership of licensed dayhome programs, overseeing operations, regulatory requirements, family communication, and program growth. During COVID-19, I opened and operated my own dayhome, adapting quickly to changing public health guidance while maintaining consistent, high-quality care.
After becoming a parent, I expanded this work to focus on broader impact: opening a daycare and growing the vision that has become our Agency, with a strong commitment to supporting educators and families with clear guidance and dependable systems.
